Best DV Book Ever |
|
Stu,
Finally got the Rebel's Guide about a week and a half ago, and tore into it immediately. I've read the whole thing cover to cover, including the DVD supplements, and I'm starting to revisit certain sections repeatedly.
I have to say this is the finest DV book I have ever read, and I have read a number, and perused and decided against buying many more in bookstores. They all seem dated by the time they hit the shelves, and their tips and tricks are far too elementary and don't have a lot of oomph because they are generally contrived examples put together for the book.
The Rebel's Guide is really cutting edge (I've got to upgrade just to avail myself of a number of the tools) and it's great that you use examples from films you have actually made!
I'm going back and applying the techniques to projects that are far along in post-production but haven't been finalized yet, and it's already paying huge dividends in the quality of the final product.
I've had my own well-intentioned workflow in place for over two years now, and as I migrate to your suggested workflow, I'm going to dig into some posts in the appropriate forums, so be forewarned.
Thanks for the writing the best DV book ever!
Josh

Finished it today. Thanks a lot, Stu, it's great!
The supplementary chapters on the DVD are extremely well done.

Got my copy last week and been tucking it to bed with me. My wife is mad and says she hates Stu!

Loving the book, but I have a a bit of a problem with pricing
In Canada I couldn't find the book for less than ~$63 [$59US]. I ended up getting it from the American Amazon.com [instead of .ca] for $27US [$28CAD]!!!
I don't have a problem with buying stuff from the US, but it is a little less convenient and delivery takes a lot longer
This isn't a rebel's guide-specfic problem, just an extreme example. pretty much every book is totally unfairly priced here :\

Indeedy.. a great book I should have read before I... |

Stu, great book... wanted more flesh, but love your style and technical starightforward-ness.
Happily on site now, and looking forward to sharing successes and woes.
Now.. I am off to ask a stupid newbie question...!
P.S Mkpmedia - I bought the book off Amazon.ca... got it in a day.

Really? Amazon.ca has it listed at $35.27 cdn, in stock. I think it was slightly less than that when I bought it a few months ago.
