Out of Focus technique
Just wondering what's the easiest way (technique or editing) to have the foreground in focus while having the background out of focus?

1. fast lens, wide open (shallow depth of field) - really any fairly wide aperture will work.
2. roto in AE, choose your blur
1 is preferable to 2 - if you have a fixed lens camera you may want to try an ND filter - it all depends on what camera you have and how well you know it.
the new video slrs with their large sensors and fast lenses all have shallow depth of field to a certain extent. the more zoomed in you are, the more depth of field you will get
you can also use a 35mm lens adapter on your video camera, so u can put fast, high quality lenses on your video camera. check out some diys on youtube or vimeo or try letus.com or redrockmicro.com
lastly, with your video camera, zoom all the way in. youll be really tight on the subject, but their will be shallow depth of field (with video slrs and high quality video cameras with high quality lenses, you dont need to zoom in to get shallow DOF, but the more zoomed in the shallower it will be, get it?)
