im totally against this. you make enough concessions when you have a camera in hand. with a pen and paper youre not thinking logistics of how youll do it, you're thinking what it 'should' be. thats when you let your imagination run wild.

I've got to side against Perry here. There is nothing in this world that will get me to DRAW storyboards. I've tried; it just doesnt happen.
But there is also nothing in this world that will get me to buy an Apple product.

Looks cool, but it would also be neat if you could get it to output a movie file or series of frames to your computer too. I wonder when this will be released... looks like it will be something fun to play with.

I think the app would be especially helpful when designing a shot list within the constraints of a physical location.

well...you dont have to do everything yourself.
here's my thinking though. suppose youre doing a storyboard and you decide the best way to show a shot is up in the air above a ceiling fan. you draw it...unencumbered by the actual realities of the shoot. And when you shoot, you try to make it happen.
now youre using this software and youre in the room youre shooting...youre not thinking about story as much as youre thinking about convenience. maybe there's no ceiling fan in the room. maybe its too much of a bother to climb up and snap the shot from up there, etc.
my point is...those early stages...writing and boarding...is the only time you have no budget. go sick.

I always write with a budget in mind - especially my VERY limited budgets. But I see your point. No one is forcing you to use the software.

Corners can always be cut -- or at least pared down -- with regard to production expense, but somewhere in the concept of any movie, reb epics included, there's some irreducible minimum. The trick is to get expenditures to that level.
Camera, computer, and software also have minimums, depending on what you want to do. If you want After Effects, you're going to have to get the whole thing, and that has a price (assuming, of course, that you aren't looking for five-finger discounts).
Once you have the tools, the cost gets spread around all the projects you'll be doing. Spend $10K tooling up, make five movies, that's an equipment cost of $2K each (assuming you can give up being compulsive about the running times and cost-per-finished-minute). If your little movies are also about learning how to make movies, what is the price you're willing to pay for education?
Filmmaking is the most expensive art ever invented, but these days, it's affordable by ordinary people. That's amazing, when you consider the cost to make a feature on film 30 years ago. And we have the capability of amazing special effects.

I see Gage as more of a 9mm man myself. Though the name Gage is suspiciously close to Gauge

Hey everyone. Hitchcock is a starting point, or a frame of reference. That's all.
We just wanted to provide an easy convenient way to create storyobards so you can get your ideas
out of your head and onto paper. I totally agree direct interpretations of storyboards can be very limiting,
however, it is nice to have a framework to be able to improvise off of now and again.
Thanks!

Hey Jonathan, welcome to the forum.
Dont worry about those guys, I took them out to the shed and gave them a stern "talking to".
Any new, exciting apps up your sleeves? (Preferably something for Andriod? )

Hey Gage, We are working on a suite apps for filmmakers. Totally
new products which we are really excited about. Straight software
as well as Software and hardware components. Unfortunately no
Android support and most likely will not be any until there is enough
demand for it to basically re-write everything in Java. I wish I had better
news for you.

Jonathan,
I just saw the FreshDV video, and all I can say is great job! It's just the kind of app that I need, but I just have one question:
Would it be terribly difficult to make this a mac/computer app as well? I have an iPod Touch so I can't take advantage of the photo features - but I do have a MacBook Pro, plus a camera right in there.
Otherwise, does anyone know of an app like this for the mac?
Thanks,
-Kashif
