has anyone played around much with magic bullet instant hd or instant hd advanced?

i noticed that they are having a 30 percent off sale ending tomorrow.

i am trying to uprez some smaller sized video loops for an upcoming vj gig, and i was wondering if anyone had performed tests or had any insight on the two products.

One of my friends used MB Instant HD (the earliest version) a couple years back to upres his 720x576 (pal) 4:3 short to 1920 x 1080 (pal) 16:9 (where parts of his footage were cropped) with GREAT success. He'd entered it in festivals in 4:3 and been rejected, but the HD 16:9 version (scaled back down to standard def- a no no from the guide, but worked for him in this case) got into several festivals and got him a regular playing for about six months on the Australian comedy channel in 2007. Not too shabby a result (though you could argue it was the 16:9 more than the instant HD result that got him into festivals. He accredits it to his using instant HD though).

On his behalf I'll say- you won't regret it. He used it on a bunch of his old movies to upres them and he swears it's a MAJOR improvement on just scaling.

I don't own it, but seeing his results, and hearing what you're looking for, I'd say you shouldn't regret it if you do it.

A while back, I tried almost every image enlarger out there, and Instant HD came out on top.

Just remember - NONE of the uprezzers will turn your SD into HD - it will only make the footage BIGGER. The better products, though, will give you output with the same quality as your SD, but in a bigger size. The poorer products will show degradation. My tests were done a while ago - I dont remember which ones I used and what the results were, other than that I liked Instant HD the most.

I bought InstantHD in Red Giants 40% sale Tuesday.
Just wondered Stu (or anyone) at what stage is best to fit into the rebel workflow, before or after colour correction?
