I think it looks really cool and really handy, but it also looks like a TON of work just to get a "cool shot". Cool shots are cool, but unless they contribute to or advance the story, they just stand to get in the way.
Using just the wheels for subtle camera movement in a scene could be very useful, though, but that can be accomplished for less than $50.

When I went back to the site all I could think of was "There must be a more rebel way to do this".

Well, on that level, I'm not a huge fan of DIY stuff. I much prefer to BUY something that does the job WELL, RIGHT, and PROFESSIONAL. I'll buy a $700 Merlin before I bother making a $14-200 DIY stabilizer. I'll buy a $300 FigRig before I bolt my camera to a 2x4. But that's me.
Here is a thread showing how to make a good subtle slider. $150 And it doesn't look like a 2x4.
