All these pics remind me of watching my Imperial Gaurd Army get torn to pieces by space elves and genestealers.
I always thought that the best terrain builders should get into movie model building
(currently some friends of mine are tying to bribe a professional model builder to help them build a modular city for 40k)

For the Emperor!

great stuff by the way!

i would love to work on a 40k movie! That's one of the two best ideas i lwould like thats not something i made up. the other would be a adaption of Nausicaä by Hayao Miyazaki.

i got my start learning miniature by selling terrain cities on ebay....

i doing tests right now on a WWII concept using models and miniatures for vehicles building etc. i got one of those 21 century toy german half track which is getting a repaint and should work for testing motion control shots. i was super insipred by the three guys doing d day [located here...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WRS9cpOMYv0] Im hoping i can get some
re enactors with Waffen SS uniforms to try this out. its not quite your idea but close i think.

Hey monkey, I'm right there with you. I really wish GW didn't crush fan fiction because it would be fun to make a 40k movie. Well, maybe one day I'll have the clout to get it done - and it will prominently feature my Imperial Fists Smile

i didn't know about that, but I've had dealing with their legal dept once or twice i still have the emails...

but i didn't know about the fan fiction.that seems odd. I would have thought they would be like Lucas film and be fairly open to it... Sad

Man, this thread is so inspiring to me. And those miniature sets look fantastic, Monkey. When is "Blood" gonna be available?

As an aspiring filmmaker who'd rather self-finance my own projects 100% than depend on outside investors, working this way opens up entire worlds of possibilities for low-budget filmmakers that was totally beyond our grasp before. Epics are now possible on a shoestring budget.

Having worked professionally in computer graphics for almost 20 years, and also being a pretty good model maker, as well as a life-long dabbler in filmmaking, I have found this recent trend in all chroma-key productions to be the most liberating thing in "film" since DV itself. Productions like Sin City, 300, Sky Captain, Able Edwards, and the promos from Blood: A Butcher's Tale found here, have shown me a new way.

Man, there are no limitations anymore. If you have room for a small greenscreen stage, a decent DV camera and home computer, then "if you can dream it, you can do it". With the luxury of time and a little ingenuity, anything is possible.

I hope so!!!
if you get up to any model work show it please. I like them cause its easier for me to get where i want to go in terms of images. we've done some work work with "poor mans motion control" [stop motion with frame blending] which as you could see in the space ship shot has a OK look, so it does work. i like the idea of a Ray Harryhausen movie, in the sense some one who knew your style could look at it and know who did it....

Can we share our favorite movie here? For me Lord of the Rings is the best movie for me.

Blood: a Butcher's Tale
I remember hearing about it a few years ago-according to the IMDB it was released in June of last year but there's no reviews of it.
