It looks like Sony's answer to the Panasonic AG-AF100.
Small form and uncompressed output is good! This certainly deserves serious consideration.
Both cameras have interchangeable lenses, and inexpensive "starter" zooms. Lens quality will have to be one of the major distinguishing factors.

Sony should make a Universal digital film making camera, now NEX FS100 PAL version don’t have any 24p,60p recording format, that is very horrible ,no ND filter,in AF 100,have CINE MODE,that is more helpful for Indie Film making,Sony should make NTSC,PAL AND CINE MODE in a one camcorder, another one thing AF 100 could switchable to 50mhz and 60mhz,that is a good thing for universal camera.why Canon 5DM2,and 7D selling like hot cake, because of film look and film spec of that camera, that is people want, now less than 1k 10bit 4:2:2 recorder available in market,(Ninja). If Canon make a full frame XF305,the whole market will take Canon,If you guys look Canon XF305 spec, that is a great camera, but only one problem is that is 1/3″ CMOS Sensor. Now Sony need to care there F3 market that why Sony make this AMPRO(Not a Professional Not an Amateur)Camcorder, this is so funny, what an idea Sony,ha ha ha ha

Valid point which i think that most no bussiness orriented individuals tend to miss...you hit the nail right on the head...SONY has a product to protect. their now very popular F3...sony has never been one to calibalize their markets (unlike canon who let their stills department destroy their video department). If the FS-100 matched the Panasonic AF-100 spec for spec and with the 10% bigger sensor (yes it's only 10% larger than than the MFT). they run the risk of losing the entry level F3 buyer to the FS-100. And this is something that Sony will NEVER do.
the thing now is for the REBEL who is considering this camera to figure out how to make it work for you're use. no ND? get a mattebox, don't like AVCHD? well figure out a way to record the HDMI output. the HDMI is 1.4 so it carries Tc and will output 3/2 flags for recording 24p from the HDMI source. I say take the HDMI to a laptop (DIY) cineform capture solution (cineform capture at the high setting is the visual equivalent of HDCAM/SR)
THE REBEL film maker should just be pleased to finally have some good options. Cameras are just tools and it's what you do with the tool that makes all the difference.
I for one am just happy to bid the DSLR rubbish good riddance. so I'm happy to see the BIG guys (companies) stepping up to the plate.
Camera companies are in the bussiness of making money by selling cameras and I don't expect anything else from them, and I fully expect SONY to protect it's neck....there's no perfect (affordable) camera.

Both cameras have similar contact lens, and affordable "starter" zooms. Zoom contacts quality will have to be one of the major identifying factors.
