Hello, gang --

I've seen the Euro-promo piece for the PAL version of this camera. I've googled "reviews" but get nothing but puff pieces. The specs look amazing, and now B&H is selling it for $ 4750 without a lens. Financially, it's the upper limit of do-able.

Have any rebs here seen this camera or played with it at all?

Thanks --

The cameras are pre-production models, so not too much actual footage is available. A short ISO 3200 test and outdoor shots by Phlllip Bloom below.

It sounds like a perfect, high quality Reb feature movie camera. I seriously doubt that I could afford a PL mount and cine lenses to start off with, but the fact that they are possible upgrades later is a huge plus. With a Panasonic zoom lens, the camera package will cost in the neighborhood of $6,000.

The review notes that the monitor images are extremely clear, no aliasing.

Batteries, matte box, follow-focus, rails, etc. are, of course, all extra. DVX100 batteries (also used on subsequent Panasonic cameras) are supposed to be able to fit.

It's not clear whether or not the specifications are carved in stone yet.

Uncompressed 4:2:2 8-bit 24p output apparently doesn't include time code. This is a problem, and it's not clear if the version 1.0 cameras to be released will have this fixed.

Still, this camera has risen to the top of the drool list.

It looks very good. Like the GH1/2, almost any good still lens will work with inexpensive M43 adapters. There is a 1.8X crop factor. There are also lots of fast industrial CCTV lenses starting around $20 which are very sharp.

These are shot with a $30 35mm f1.7 cctv lens, good for shallow DOF shots:

More test footage and native MTS file from AF100.

This is some of the best looking AF100 footage I have found to date.

A freind of mine, who is completing an MFA in film at Columbia University, and who has won the Audience Choice award at Slamdance, told me that she has used the AF100 to make a short, loved it, and will be sending me a URL to see it. She didn't inow if the raw footage was recorded on a flash card or through an HDMI-uncompressed 4:2:2 8-bit signal. I forgot to ask her if I could post that URL here, but I will ...

This would be an actual indie production, not a test by super digital genius mavens. Further info to come.
