The Scam |
|
My buddy, Alex Alamul, is once again into the throes of movie making madness.
I did the post on his last feature, Wrong Turn (no, not that one, a different Wrong Turn, that, unless you're in India watching a bootleg, you haven't seen yet), and it was gnarly.
The DP, Tony Belko, was awesome but it was shot fast and loose and I "learned a lot" about creative post techniques.
Now Alex has hit me up to do the post on this new project. Remembering the trials and tribulations from our last effort I bought a copy of the Guide and sent it to him. He is totally buying into it. I also bought a copy for Tony, too. Being a DP, he may read it if his business comes to a screeching halt and he gets a free moment. But he likes the concept.
You can see where this is going:
Stu gets us hooked and then we do the distribution for him. Classic dealer's scam. Damn him for peddling such an addictive product.

Stu's product is SO ADDICTIVE he doesn't even need to give us the first hit free! I've already been the cause for two extra purchases other than my own...
Let's face it, it's not like an addiction. It's like a religion. We've been turned into a bunch of instant evangelists.
Stu, you cunning, cunning man. You ever need a secret compound in England like the Scientologists have, just let me know, I'll make it happen!

Used to live in Hollywood myself! (on Wilcox and Hollywood) Rock on Gage! You know, if you whirl those XLR cables really fast, they make a pretty good improvised bola...

Sorry dude! Didn't get to that one in time. Is that the liquor store on Wilcox and Yucca, next to the slighly sketchy bar? Just one block north from Hollywood Blvd?
I have been missing LA a lot today - it's a great city!

D'oh - only read the first line of your post and then just repeated everything... I lived on that pink building on the middle of the block on the east side (as opposed to the other one on the west side of the street, which had a better pool...)
I moved back to the UK because I'm from here originally. I lived in the US for about 8 years on and off, Denver first then LA. I loved it and if the work took me back, I'd be there in a shot!

Gage, I hope you'll forgive me but my current obsession is trying out Colorista on any un-color-corrected clips I can get my hands on.
Just playing, that's all!

Gage,
I did the shots in AE, and I'd be happy to share the project with you. Colorista works in Vegas too, BTW.
The biggest thing I did is use a masked Colorista to expose up the talent, which can work miracles on available light shots!
There's a freebie tool that does this in FCP:
http://www.haiku.com.au/2005/08/final-cut-pro-plug-ins.html
Don't know if there's anything like that for Vegas.
